About
Windelov is a cultivar of the classic Java Fern, originating from tissue culture selections developed in Europe, named after the founder of Tropica Aquarium Plants. What sets it apart from standard Microsorum pteropus is the leaf tips, which split and branch repeatedly into delicate, lacy fronds that almost look like tiny coral formations. It stays more compact than the regular variety, rarely exceeding 20 cm, which makes it a natural fit for midground placement or as a focal point on driftwood and rock.
Like all Java Ferns, it's an epiphyte and must be attached to hardscape rather than buried in substrate. Tie it down with cotton thread or fishing line, or wedge the rhizome into a crevice, and it'll anchor itself over time.
Growth is genuinely slow, so don't expect a lush specimen overnight. No CO2 injection is needed, and it handles low light without complaint, though it'll grow a touch faster with moderate lighting. Propagation happens naturally when small plantlets develop along older leaves.
You'll find this plant showing up in some of the most elegant low-tech iwagumi and nature aquarium builds out there, and for good reason.

Care Notes
Never bury the rhizome in substrate. That's the single fastest way to kill it. Brown or black patches on leaves usually mean too much light or poor flow, not a nutrient deficiency. It's slow, so give it months before judging its health. Remove old leaves turning translucent brown at the base rather than letting them decompose and foul water.
