Community Guidelines
Last updated: March 23, 2026
Shimmerscape is a place for aquarium enthusiasts to document and share their tanks. These guidelines help keep the community welcoming and safe for everyone.
What Shimmerscape is for
- Sharing photos and videos of your aquariums
- Documenting your tank builds, progress, and maintenance
- Recording equipment, species, and water parameters
- Linking to relevant resources, guides, and social profiles
Content that isn't allowed
The following types of content will be automatically rejected or removed:
- Nudity and sexual content - Shimmerscape is for aquarium content only.
- Graphic violence and gore - Documenting fish illness or loss is fine; gratuitously graphic content is not.
- Hate speech - Content that attacks or demeans people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics.
- Harassment and threats - Directed abuse, threats of violence, or encouragement of self-harm.
- Spam and deceptive content - Bulk-created tanks, misleading information, or content that exists solely to promote unrelated products or services.
- Malicious links - URLs that lead to phishing sites, malware, or other harmful destinations.
- Animal cruelty - Content that depicts or promotes the intentional mistreatment of animals.
- Copyright infringement - Photos, videos, or other content that you do not own or have permission to use. Only upload content that is yours.
How we enforce these guidelines
We use a combination of automated screening and community reporting to keep Shimmerscape safe:
- Automatic screening - Images, videos, text, and URLs are checked when you upload or submit them. Content that clearly violates these guidelines will be rejected before it appears on the site.
- Community reports - Any visitor can report a tank that they believe violates these guidelines. Reported content is reviewed and may be hidden while under review.
- Account suspension - Accounts that repeatedly or severely violate these guidelines may be suspended.
False positives
Automated screening isn't perfect. If your content is rejected and you believe it was a mistake, please contact us at support@shimmerscape.com and we'll review it.
Changes to these guidelines
We may update these guidelines as the community grows. Significant changes will be noted with an updated date at the top of this page.
